mom?

I've been a mom for 3 days. It's been nothing but pure joy, but I have to say.... it's not so easy to come to terms with my insta-mom status. I have heard other adoptive couples say that they felt like they were babysitting for the first couple of weeks. I don't really feel like I'm babysitting... (I've never loved a child that I've babysat this much, or been so amazed and interested in their bowel movements). But there is something jarring to me about being considered a mom in this world. Calling myself mommy is weird. What is especially weird is going out in the street and having others see me as a mom. I mean, I am beyond thankful for this new role, but it's just kinda weird right now, ya know?

Right after we left the agency on Monday, we went to have lunch at a small grocery store around the corner. As soon as we walked in a woman looked in to see little A in her stroller and told us how beautiful she was, and asked how old she was. After telling her that she was 2 weeks old she told us that she had 5 1/2 month old twins at home. "How's that going?," I asked. "About as you'd expect," she answered, "How's it going for you guys?" "Well, we adopted her about an hour ago, and it's going really well so far!"

Make sure to write down the story of the lady in the store for A to have later.

And it is weird being a MOM all of a sudden. Probably a bit like getting married and signing a check with your new name for the first time, except that this change the world can see when you have babe with you.

Congrats again!!!

So... how is it going?

There are so many things I want to write down to share with A later. I'm thinking about making a children's book for her....

How is it going? Well, that's a post (or 5) unto itself, but basically, it's fabulous!!
